Hot and Humid to Arnad

Arnad, Italy -- 47.3 miles, 12.8 mph, 1350 ft

Hi!  It's Dex.  When I woke up this morning, I was well rested due to the wet towel that I used as a blanket.  When I woke up, Dad asked me if I wanted to look for WarmShowers hosts.  I enthusiastically agreed; in five minutes, I had already found 3 possible hosts in Lausanne, Switzerland.  After about 15 minutes, Dad told me to stop looking.  Meanwhile, Mom had been contacting the 6-7 people I had found.  Breakfast was pretty good, and there was some killer hot chocolate.
Looking for Warm Shower hosts
It was at least 80 degrees when we started riding at 9:30.  The start of the day was not very eventful. We were burning up miles and burning up ourselves.  All we could see were the rice paddies and the occasional hill.  But around mile 15, I couldn't help but notice the looming silhouette of the GIANT ALPS.  The sight was awesome, and they just kept getting bigger and bigger.

We had a great lunch outside a supermarket.  Kylie and I were really excited to open our new Kinder eggs, which Mom's friend had given us yesterday.  The sweet candy was delicious, and the toys were really fun.  Kylie and I spent at least twenty minutes playing with them while Mom and Dad rested in the shade.  Dad reluctantly said we could keep the toys, so we thanked him many times.  (Dad's note: Uh, really?)

After we got going again, we started to realize that the hills were getting closer on all sides, and from my point of view, were no longer hills.  They were now mountains.

Then the climbing started.  It wasn't steep, but it was extremely hot.  Mom and I were sweating like pigs.  We even saw a sign reading 41 C (106 F, according to Dad).  It was like that all the way to Armanac (our lovely hotel).  The hotel was bright green and looked really cool.

When we found our room, I was stunned.  It was very pretty and there were 4 nice beds.  We were on the 4th floor and had a great view.  The shingles were all made out of thin pieces of rock.  When we opened the windows, we got a really nice cross wind.

Kylie and I settled in nicely.  After homework and dinner, we played with our Kinder egg for at least 2 hours (Mom and Dad were already asleep).  It was a hot, but fun day.

  4. Wonderful stories - thanks so much for sharing! Enjoy the Kinderüberraschungseier (Kinder eggs)! Can you imagine they are not allowed in the US? Too bad we won't meet - we just went to Freiburg the end of May. Have a good time!
