To Frankfurt, Germany -- 14.7 miles, 10.8 mph, 350 ft
We decided yesterday, that it might actually be a good idea to see Frankfurt given we were only a few miles away. As a result, we planned a "grueling" 19 km ride into town for this morning. We were actually ready to ride by 8:30 and Meg was ready to go. Sadly, I had to correct her misconception that we’d (I’d) be skipping breakfast for the short ride into town. Remember grumpy Dad? I scarfed down some food and we still managed a world record start of 8:45!
The short ride was amazing in that we followed quiet, paved or dirt paths all the way into Frankfurt. We're amazed how you can be in a thick forest, cross a road over the freeway, and, presto, you’re in a residential section of town.
The primary goal for today was to visit the Senckenberg Natural History Museum. It was really awesome though only selected exhibits were translated, which helped prioritize our attention. Or, more correctly, the adults attention since Dex and Kylie tend to skip over most of those pesky words. We did splurge for the audio tour players, so we were guaranteed to get some information transferred.

The Senckenberg has one of the largest collection of stuffed animals. When we had read about that before arriving, we had for some reason imagined the world's largest collection of teddy bears! Sorry Mr. Monster and Nipper.
Not a Teddy Bear |
Once we had burned out on educating ourselves -- and the kids bought souvenir pins -- we headed off to our home for the evening, the Hotel Lloyed. Lounging around, and getting caught up on email and the blog was our main activity. Dex and Kylie had spotted a little playground on the way there, so went out to get their necessary quota of running and jumping.
Homework time |
We found a little Indian food restaurant for dinner. It was nothing to look at and stuffy inside, but the food was tasty and I came out sweating, which I figure is a good sign with Indian food. We’ve decided that air conditioning in Europe is not the same as the US. Although we had a nice room in a nice hotel, with the AC fan at max and the thermostat at its coldest setting the room was almost perfect (as long as you had no clothes on, which is pretty close to how we slept!)

Off to dinner |
We did watch the final Euro 2016 game tonight: France vs Portugal. It was fun to watch. It’s amazing how long they can play with the ball just bouncing on people’s heads. I still happen to think they need some way to increase the scoring. We hung in there through the second overtime and the only goal of the game. Go Portugal.
I'm reading one after the other. I'm enjoying the trip so much. If only I were getting the benefit of the exercise, and earning all that bakery!
ReplyDeleteAlso, I would live to hear from Dex and K themselves again. I know they must have quite a few games within the game going on.
