A Leisurely Day

Gokyo, Nepal -- 4790m (15,710ft)

Meg here today.  It was a nice rest day.  We had a very leisurely morning with the kids working on spelling. The restaurant in the lodge was a warm sunny spot with views of alpine peaks and Gokyo Lake.  The kids won't have another classroom like this, that's for sure.

After homework, we made our way to the Fitzroy Bakery to pick up items for our lake walk -- a cinnamon roll, a slice of apple pie, and two coconut "danesh."  Dex, who was still very tired, was struggling with the hike.  At one point, I thought he was going to turn back, but he prevailed. The rocks on the way along the valley were amazing -- so much history in those things, but we're missing the story.  We all keep thinking of Allison (Dean's niece), now studying Geology, who would be such an asset.

We did make it to the next lake, but it was no where near as pretty as the one right at town.  Instead of the clear, glacial blue waters, it was the color of yeast mixed with milk.  The kids busied themselves making rock cairns, while Dean left to see if he could spot the next lake from the ridge.  I just enjoyed looking back out toward Gokyo and it's beautiful sparkling waters.

Our trip back was much quicker with the kids walking together and reminiscing about Dinosaur Train.  Sweet.  We got back to the lodge about 1 p.m. after a detour to the lake, and there we stayed for the rest of the afternoon.  Dean started working on merging our journal entries for the blog, the kids were playing cards, and I fell asleep.  It was lovely.

Kevin arrived back around 3 p.m. from his trek and Craig came in around 4:00.  Tonight is our last night together, which is a bummer.  I'm definitely envious that they'll be able to see April and Sharyl very soon.  Mostly, though, I'm going to miss them.  They've both been patient and fun with the kids and have helped make Nepal super wonderful.
