Pizza to Go

To Lubeck, Germany -- 46.7 miles, 12.3 mph, 850 ft

While Dex and Kylie read their Kindles this morning, Meg and I did a bit more route planning and looked into flights to London. We settled on a $14 Ryan Air flight from Rygge airport (south of Oslo) to Stedfast outside of London. Sounds like a bargain to me.

Before leaving, Dex went out to the bakery next store to buy a few bread rolls (but no "gross" coffee), which we ate in the bright hotel kitchen with our yoghurt, museili, cheese, and ham. We joked about the splendid view of the Hamburg business park across the street.

Our bike route quickly left the busy city following smaller paths through and between nearby towns. It was unusually hot and muggy today, but otherwise quite a nice ride. We all agreed that one of the nicest things about the typical Komoot route as it zigs and zags along the countryside, is it constantly changes to keep things interesting -- a couple stanzas of forest followed by a refrain of farmland and a verse of small town.

Lunch was at another market today, albeit quite a nice one... with real functioning air conditioning and a comfy table near the bakery.

This afternoon, after arriving at camp Lübeck-Schönböcken, checking in, and having ice cream (kids) and sodas (adults), a miracle occurred. Dex and Kylie wheeled the bikes to the camp area (only dropped my bike once), found a spot for the tent, set it up, and even inflated the sleeping mats. I have no idea what they ate or drank, but I'd like to feed it to them for every meal. Maybe it was the two packages of sour cream and onion crackers they had at the supermarket this afternoon. We’ll be having those for breakfast tomorrow. Incredulous, Meg and I rested outside the reception office reading email and catching up on blog posts.

For dinner we hopped onto the empty bikes, a rare occurrence, and pedaled our svelte racers into town. The warm, muggy day had turned into a cool, perfect night for a ride. We road passed a pizza joint and the decision was made. The "Call A Pizza" pizza business was apparently booming with a couple guys zipping back and forth on mopeds. The delivery for our Hawaiian pizza was all of 3 meters as we choose to eat on the steps outside. I was getting worried yesterday, our rest day, that my appetite was beginning to wane. We followed up the pizza with ice cream sundaes, so I think can set my fears aside. Whew.
